Since its inaugural edition in February 2024, InsurTech Forum Nairobi (ITFN) has grown into a defining platform shaping Africa’s insurance innovation and execution agenda. 

From February 2024 and May 2024 (co-hosted with the Association of Kenya Insurers – AKI), to February 2025 and September 2025 (co-hosted with the Insurance Institute of Kenya – IIK),each edition has progressively deepened the industry’s understanding of AI, insurtech,governance, and digital transformation—empowering insurers to enhance customer experience,strengthen operational performance, and align innovation with regulatory realities.

Across 2024 and 2025, ITFN convened over 60+ leaders in February 2024, 75+ in May 2024, 120+ in February 2025, and 150+ in September 2025—demonstrating sustained growth in executive participation and ecosystem impact.

 The AI Innovation Challenge has been a cornerstone of the forum, spotlighting practical, deployable AI solutions for insurance. In May 2024, Madison Insurance emerged as the winner, followed by Strathmore University’s iLabAfrica and ICEA Lion Group. In February 2025, ICEA Lion Group (Team A) won, followed by Kenyan Alliance Insurance and ICEA Lion Group (Team B). In September 2025, Old Mutual Kenya won the challenge with its OmiCare fraud detection solution, reinforcing the industry’s growing focus on AI-driven security and digital transformation.

About

Ashok Shah is the current Group CEO of Apollo Investments Limited. He has over 50 years experience in Insurance. He has majored in Applied Chemistry from Kingston University (UK) and is a Chartered Insurer by profession. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Other directorships include: APA Insurance (Uganda) Ltd, APA Life Assurance Ltd, and Apollo Asset Management Company Limited.

He is the first recipient of the Think Business Life Time Achievement Award for his contribution to the Insurance Industry in Kenya. He is also involved in many social activities, mainly in support of the needy and underprivileged.

He was honoured with an MBS by the President of the Republic of Kenya in 2024 and won  CEO of the year Africa at the AIO 2025  awards and was also awarded the Best Business Male Icon at Tawaa 2025. 

About

Arthur Oginga is an experienced, results-driven financial executive with over 25 years track record of taking on progressively larger and more complex roles. He holds a B.A. in Economics and Sociology from the University of Nairobi and is a qualified accountant (CPA-K). He is a member of several professional bodies, including ICPAK (Kenya), ICPAU (Uganda), and ANAN (Nigeria).

Arthur has had extensive experience in financial services, particularly in banking, insurance, asset management, and stockbroking, across various African geographies. His leadership experience spans both corporate centres, notably in Kenya and South Africa, as well as leading core operational business units. He has successfully held finance leadership positions at the CFO/Regional FD level for over 15 years and has taken on key continental leadership roles at Old Mutual. He has played key leadership roles in debt and capital raising and balance sheet restructures. He has successfully reviewed and executed mergers and acquisitions opportunities and led post-acquisition business integrations. He has also led successful business and functional turnaround initiatives in different markets. Arthur has been instrumental in implementing enterprise-wide control improvement programmes and core banking system changes.

As a leader, Arthur’s strengths are in setting strategic direction and ensuring effective execution through an outcomes-based approach to leading, with highly engaged teams. Arthur is culturally agile, and his leadership is characterized by forward thinking.

Ian Muiruri is a dynamic Corporate MC and Tech Event Moderator renowned for delivering engaging, insightful, and high-impact experiences across Africa’s technology and business landscape. Jacqueline is a seasoned insurance executive with more than 17 years of experience in various key roles within the life insurance industry, including leadership, sales, and operational responsibilities.

Her tenure at SanlamAllianz has been marked by strategic leadership and transformation, driving turnaround across distribution channels, digital enablement, and strategic partnerships to position the business for long-term sustainability.

Jacqueline is a graduate of the Stellenbosch Business School Senior Leadership Development Program and holds a First Class Honors Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. She is also a Fellow of the Life Management Institute (FLMI) and an Associate Member of the Insurance Institute of Kenya.

Her leadership continues to drive growth, customer-centric innovation, and sustainable value creation across the life insurance business.

Justine Kosgei is the Group Chief Executive Officer of AAR Insurance, where he leads the company’s strategy, transformation agenda, and regional operations across East Africa.

He brings over a decade of senior leadership experience in insurance and financial services, having held strategic roles in operations, actuarial services, strategy, and regional leadership at APA Insurance, Old Mutual, and CIC Insurance Group.

Under his leadership, AAR Insurance has accelerated its transformation agenda, expanded its regional footprint, and strengthened its digital and partnership ecosystem to improve customer access, service efficiency, and long-term growth.

Justine is an alumnus of Harvard Kennedy School and Aga Khan University, holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Actuarial Science, and is widely recognized as a rising leader in Africa’s insurance industry.

Judith brings over 20 years of leadership in the insurance industry, with a deep 15-year specialization in the Bancassurance sector. Her track record includes serving as Managing Director for both NCBA Bancassurance Intermediary Ltd and NIC Bancassurance Intermediary. She is recognized for scaling distribution networks and integrating technology to build profitable, resilient organizations.

As Group Head of Distribution for Liberty Kenya Holdings, Judith currently leads sales and distribution strategies across the group’s General (Heritage Insurance) and Life (Liberty Life) businesses.A certified Executive Coach, Judith holds a Global MBA in Leadership from the University of London and a BSc in International Business Management. She formerly served as Vice-Chairperson and an Executive Council member of the Bancassurance Association of Kenya.

Kevin Mworia is a seasoned insurance executive with over two decades of experience in the financial services industry. His career spans leadership roles across strategy, finance, human capital, culture transformation, and strategic alliances.

Before joining Continental Reinsurance as Managing Director for Kenya, Kevin served at Sanlam Kenya Plc, where he was Principal Officer of Sanlam Life and Group CFO. He previously held senior finance roles at Liberty Life and Metropolitan Cannon, and began his career at ICEA LION Group.

A Certified Public Accountant, Kevin has 18 years of senior leadership experience and a strong track record of driving operational and strategic transformation within the insurance sector.

He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Mathematics and Statistics from Kenyatta University, completed the Senior Leadership Development Programme at Stellenbosch Business School, and earned a certification in Circular Economy and Sustainable Strategies from the University of Cambridge Judge Business School.

Nicholas Muratha is the Head of Growth & Innovation at Caava Group, the parent company of Turnkey Africa, Caava AI, and Agencify, and the Convenor of ITFN. He has a strong background in the insurance and technology sectors.

He currently serves as Head of Growth and Innovation at Caava Group, where he applies his deep expertise in business operations, technology integration, and data-driven decision-making to drive growth and operational excellence. He leads business strategy, partnerships with major insurers, and key technological innovations.

Rayan is a seasoned Technology Head and Digital Transformation Lead with over 20 years of experience driving business strategy, innovation, and large-scale technology transformation across Asia, Africa, and the UK.

With deep expertise in insurance and asset management, he has led complex programmes spanning product and portfolio management, solution delivery, infrastructure, and security transformation.

A pragmatic problem solver, Rayan is passionate about scalable technology solutions, operational efficiency, and driving meaningful change in dynamic, fast-paced environments.

Samuel Otieno is the Managing Director at NCBA Bancassurance Intermediary, a subsidiary of NCBA Group where he looks after the Bancassurance business across Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.

With over 20 years of working experience, Samuel has worked for several local and multinational banks and insurance companies while holding various senior leadership roles at Old Mutual, Stanbic Bank, Jubilee Insurance, Chase Bank and Kenyan Alliance Insurance.

Samuel is a Fellow of the life management Institute (FLMI) from the USA, a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), UK and holds a bachelor’s degree from the Management University of Africa. He also has other qualifications in professional bodies – Strathmore University Kenya and Career Connections. Samuel is a life coach and doubles up as a Pastor.

Thomas Thuku is a Computer Scientist and an Accountant by training and a distinguished IT professional   with over 15 years of hands-on experience across various domains, including Software Support, Projects Implementations and Product Management. As Maseno University alumnus with a strong academic foundation in Computer and Mathematics as well as CPA III from Vision Institute of Professionals, Thomas combines technical proficiency with a deep understanding of market dynamics

He is currently the General Manager and Chief Commercial Officer at Caava Group, the parent company of Turnkey Africa, Agencify, and Caava AI, and a pan African insurance technology and service provider that develops, supplies and manages end-to-end insurance software solutions for the insurance industry for over 27 years. 

Thomas has worked for Turnkey Africa Ltd in Kenya, Nigeria Ghana, Zambia and Uganda and has been instrumental in spearheading the Turkey Africa belief that technology can make insurance more accessible by providing innovative solutions and being the partner of choice to the insurance industry.
